About The Position

The Workforce Intelligence Lab (WIL) is an applied workforce research initiative that builds methodology-transparent workforce intelligence. WIL is assembling a California team to respond to the California Energy Commission's Charger Service Skills Accelerator grant solicitation (GFO-26-601). This solicitation funds training for credentials in servicing electric vehicle (EV) charging equipment, including installation, commissioning, verification and testing, maintenance, repair, technical support, and decommissioning. Funded projects must provide training, collaborate with worker, employer, and educational provider partners, and offer a clear path from training to quality jobs. This is a contingent proposal opportunity, not a funded vacancy. Applications are due October 30, 2026. If an award proceeds, WIL may offer full-time employment or a project-based contract engagement. Engagements are remote-first, with travel as required for California partner and training sites. WIL is seeking an EV charger field service technician or electrician to advise the training program on the requirements of charger service work.

Requirements

  • Hands-on field experience installing, commissioning, maintaining, or repairing EV charging equipment (Level 2 and/or DC fast charging)
  • Journeyman electrician status, a California DIR electrician certification, EVITP certification, or a comparable documented trade credential
  • Working knowledge of electrical safety practices, including lockout/tagout, and applicable electrical codes
  • Ability to explain technical work clearly to instructors and curriculum developers

Nice To Haves

  • California C-10 electrical contractor license or EV charger field experience in California
  • Instructor, apprenticeship, or manufacturer training experience
  • Experience with charge point operator or EVSE operations and maintenance service programs

Responsibilities

  • Advise the training partner on the real job tasks of EV charger service (installation, commissioning, verification and testing, maintenance, repair, technical support, and decommissioning) for Level 2 and DC fast chargers
  • Review curriculum and lab exercises against industry standards and employer needs, including electrical safety practices such as lockout/tagout
  • Help define entry-level and advancement roles in charger service for the proposal's career pathway
  • Advise on which credentials carry weight with employers, including EVITP, electrician certifications, and manufacturer-specific training
  • Support instructor development by transferring field knowledge to instructors and curriculum developers
  • Share field perspective on common failures, diagnostics, tools, and uptime practices so training reflects current equipment
  • Contribute a short resume and experience summary to the proposal (with permission)
