About The Position

This role involves the safe operation and routine maintenance of a vessel's power, propulsion, auxiliary, and other electro-mechanical and electronic systems. The ETO must comply with all applicable laws and regulations, company policies, and manufacturer recommendations, ensuring the safety of the crew and the protection of the environment. Responsibilities include monitoring, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance under the supervision of a licensed officer, managing spare parts and tool inventories, general vessel maintenance, creating and executing work plans in the Vessel Management System, updating task completion, maintaining inventory of tools and critical/spare parts, assigning and monitoring work for assistant engineering staff, and performing deckhand duties as needed.

Requirements

  • USCG MMC is required for this role.

  • The employee must meet physical requirements including but not limited to, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing up/down ladders and stairs, negotiating uneven and moving surfaces.
  • Able to work in confined spaces and carry heavy tools for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to pull heavy lines/hoses, lift, carry heavy items, climb onto barges and up and down ladders.
  • Must be comfortable entering tanks and other confined spaces.
  • Must be able to work in difficult conditions with exposure to all weather conditions (rain, ice, snow, wind, heat, etc.).
  • Must be comfortable working aboard boats and barges using heavy lines, winches, and mechanical tools for repairs.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work when exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels, and potentially hazardous equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Safe operation and routine maintenance of the vessel’s power, propulsion, auxiliary, and other electro-mechanical and electronic systems.
  • Monitoring, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance in accordance with Company procedures.
  • Responsible care and use of the vessel’s consumable spares, mechanical stores and tools inventories.
  • General vessel maintenance and monitoring reporting to Chief Engineer.
  • Create work plan and execute daily tasks in accordance with the established schedule in Vessel Management System.
  • Update completed tasks with notes in Vessel Management System as completed.
  • Maintain inventory of tools and critical/spare parts on board the vessel.
  • Assign work to any assistant engineering staff and monitor to ensure satisfactory completion.
  • Work as a deckhand as needed.
