About The Position

Plymouth Industries is seeking a detail-oriented Estimator to support our Sales and Engineering teams in quoting custom metal fabrication and material handling projects. This role is responsible for reviewing drawings and specifications, developing accurate cost estimates, utilizing CAD software, and helping ensure projects are priced competitively and profitably. The Estimator works closely with engineering, production, and purchasing to understand manufacturing requirements across machining, welding, fabrication, finishing, and assembly. This is a hands-on role that requires practical problem solving, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work through real-world manufacturing constraints.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints
  • Basic understanding of metal fabrication processes (cutting, welding, machining, assembly)
  • Strong math skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general computer systems
  • Ability to manage multiple quotes and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Clear communication skills and ability to work across departments
  • High level of accountability and follow-through
  • 2+ years of experience in estimating, manufacturing, or a related technical role
  • 1+ year of Solidworks CAD experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in custom fabrication, job shop, or engineer-to-order manufacturing
  • Familiarity with CNC machining, laser cutting, welding, and finishing processes
  • Experience with ERP systems
  • Exposure to cost estimating software or structured estimating methods
  • Hands-on shop experience or background in fabrication or machining

Responsibilities

  • Review RFQs, drawings, and specifications to understand scope and requirements
  • Develop detailed cost estimates including material, labor, machining, fabrication, finishing, and outside services
  • Interpret prints, CAD models, and bills of materials to determine manufacturing approach
  • Collaborate with engineering to identify efficient design and fabrication methods
  • Work with production teams to validate routing steps, cycle times, and feasibility
  • Request and evaluate vendor quotes for purchased components and subcontracted services
  • Prepare and submit clear, accurate, and timely customer quotations
  • Maintain and update cost data, estimating tools, and pricing standards
  • Support continuous improvement of estimating processes and cost accuracy
  • Assist with project handoff to engineering and production after order award
  • Participate in internal reviews to identify cost savings opportunities and process improvements
