About The Position

Our client is seeking a FT Estimator Alberta to support the Transmission Program Management team.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of transmission and substation project execution, including construction means and methods
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation practices
  • Proficiency with estimating tools and spreadsheets (specific tools to align with company standards)
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License for field visits within Edmonton
  • Diploma or degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related discipline
  • Intermediate Level: 5–7 years of estimating experience in electric transmission, power utilities, or heavy civil infrastructure
  • Senior Level: 8+ years of relevant estimating experience with demonstrated leadership capability
  • Proven experience estimating high-voltage transmission and/or substation projects

Nice To Haves

  • Professional designation (P.Eng., C.E.T., or equivalent) is considered an asset
  • Experience in a regulated transmission utility environment and familiarity with AUC capital governance processes is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed cost estimates for transmission projects, including overhead and underground lines, substations, and asset replacement or upgrade programs
  • Review engineering drawings, technical specifications, standards, and scopes of work to support estimate development
  • Complete detailed quantity take-offs and determine labour, equipment, and material requirements
  • Apply standardized estimating methodologies, unit rates, and historical cost data
  • Identify estimating assumptions, cost drivers, risks, and uncertainties, including development of escalation and contingency allowances
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Construction to assess constructability, sequencing, and execution strategies
  • Support capital budget development, business case preparation, and Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) filings
  • Review contractor estimates, tender submissions, and change orders for scope completeness and cost reasonableness
  • Maintain estimating databases, cost models, and estimating documentation
  • Prepare and maintain Basis of Estimate documentation, including inclusions, exclusions, and assumptions
  • Participate in post-project reviews to improve estimating accuracy and processes
  • Other duties that may be assigned consistent with the job description
