The Estimator prepares cost estimates by analyzing proposals and requirements and is responsible for tracking and responding to multiple incoming requests for proposals. Performs takeoffs from blueprints and specifications and compiling detailed estimates for the manufacturing and installation of doors, windows and other architectural products.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of estimating, project management, or operations support in a manufacturing or construction industry.
  • Strong math skills
  • Basic knowledge of fabrication
  • Ability to work under pressure and deal with short deadlines.
  • Accuracy in budgeting, project accounting, and job costing
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents, specifications, blueprints, and architectural drawings
  • Strong written and oral English communication skills
  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent from a 2 year college or technical school preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides reports, product information, and meet with both architects and contractors to help specify products that we support.
  • Prepares work to be estimated by gathering proposals, drawings, specifications, and related documents.
  • Gathers details and compiles data to estimate all production costs according to specifications.
  • Considers raw materials, labor, equipment, tools, labor and transportation for estimations.
  • Helps determine necessary resources for projects based on cost estimates and budgetary constraints.
  • Able to interpret and verify project specifications to ensure accuracy.
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the construction industry.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Computes costs by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements.
  • Maintains a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Solicits and maintains communication with multiple vendors.
  • Identifies their current products, capabilities, & lead-times.
  • Notes drawing discrepancies and attempts to resolve them with the contractor or qualifies our proposed solutions as alternate.
  • Excludes scopes that are not included or offered.
  • Presents a prepared estimate by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information.
  • Experience updating costing template based on new systems, updated vendor pricing, tax rates, labor rates based on new contracts, project manager feedback, & ownership groups requests.
  • Follows up with contractors for bid results and provides them any additional information or value engineering required to help them make their selection
  • Assists the Project Managers with any issues or changes to scope that may arise in completing the project.
