About The Position

Granite is hiring an Estimator II to independently develop and coordinate substantial estimate scopes for heavy civil and energy-sector construction projects. The role analyzes quantities, production, pricing, construction approaches, subcontractor and supplier input, and risk to prepare competitive, well-supported bids. The position is currently remote and is expected to transition to Granite’s planned Austin, Texas office. Occasional travel may be required for job walks, site visits, bid and preconstruction activities, company meetings, and collaboration at other Granite locations. The Estimator II manages estimate scopes from initial review through bid completion; develops and reviews quantities, production assumptions, labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor and supplier pricing; builds traceable estimate structures; uses historical cost and production information to validate assumptions; and presents assigned scopes and recommendations during estimate and bid reviews. The role evaluates scope, site conditions, schedules, construction constraints, means and methods, sequencing, equipment, labor strategies, productivity, alternatives, scope gaps, commercial considerations, and estimating risks. It develops assumptions, exclusions, clarifications, risk considerations, bid strategies, and pricing recommendations. The position coordinates with operations and project teams to validate production, equipment, schedules, logistics, site conditions, and construction approaches. It maintains estimate documentation, participates in estimate and bid reviews, and supports estimate-to-operations handoffs by communicating scope, assumptions, risks, and execution considerations. It also provides guidance to Estimator I and other developing estimating personnel, shares estimating practices and lessons learned, incorporates project feedback into future estimates, and takes ownership of estimate quality, completeness, and competitiveness. The job is performed primarily in a remote office environment, with an anticipated move to an office environment in Austin. Site or other company-location visits may occur. The employee must collaborate effectively in a remote setting with teams across multiple locations and follow Granite’s safety, quality, environmental, and conduct requirements.
