About The Position

This position is responsible for developing accurate and timely estimates for both private and public sector works projects to ensure Granite is a responsive bidder. The role involves analyzing and compiling estimate data that impact the cost of labor, materials, equipment requirements, location, and other factors to ensure a high-quality and timely estimate. It also requires reviewing drawings, specifications, and proposed project site conditions, recording findings, and soliciting input from field operations. The Estimator will discuss and analyze alternative solutions and construction methods with field supervision and the Senior/Chief Estimator to increase bid competitiveness, perform accurate quantity take-offs, utilize existing cost history as a check, and develop knowledge of bidding risks and strategies. The position involves presenting the estimate/bid to the Senior/Chief Estimator for review and participating in estimate and bid reviews with management to develop estimating skills. Additionally, the Estimator will develop knowledge of and communicate with owners, subcontractors, public and private entities to ensure competitiveness, and communicate estimate bid information to field operations at pre-construction meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or equivalent related work experience.
  • 2+ years of Engineer or Take-Off Technician experience.
  • Proficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Proficiency with AGTEK Take-off and Primavera Scheduling software.
  • Basic understanding of Estimating software.
  • Basic principles of civil engineering.
  • Basic principles of construction.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of agency (U)DBE requirements.
  • Comply, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives.
  • Team player.
  • Ability and willingness to abide by Granite’s Code of Conduct on a daily basis.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive.

Responsibilities

  • Develop accurate and timely estimates for private and public sector works projects.
  • Analyze and compile estimate data impacting labor, materials, equipment, location, and other cost factors.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and proposed project site conditions.
  • Solicit input from field operations to include in project estimates.
  • Discuss and analyze alternative solutions and construction methods with field supervision and Senior/Chief Estimator.
  • Perform accurate quantity take-offs.
  • Utilize existing cost history as a check for estimates.
  • Develop knowledge of bidding risks and strategies.
  • Present estimate/bid to Senior/Chief Estimator for review.

  • Develop knowledge of and communicate with owners, subcontractors, public and private entities.
  • Communicate estimate bid information to field operations at pre-construction meetings.
  • Comprehend and administer a safety program that provides for a safe work environment.
  • Create and promote the ability to recognize and understand appropriate environmental policies, rules, and potential adverse effects.
