Position Summary The Mechanical Estimator for our Northern California division will provide and/or coordinate all estimating services necessary to procure HVAC Pipe and Sheet Metal projects. Critical to this role is a focus on accuracy, thoroughness, and profitability. This position is responsible for cultivating relationships with the Estimating Departments within our targeted community of General Contractors. If you have estimating experience in industrial construction, manufacturing, power, refinery, pipe fabrication, water treatment or similar types of projects, this may be the role for you! Location: Livermore, CA; San Leandro, CA; or Sacramento, CA

Requirements

  • 3+ years in estimating self-performing construction projects related to mechanical piping (wet-side HVAC, sheet metal, ductwork, etc.).
  • Proficiency in related estimating software (FastPIPE / FastDUCT, Trimble Autobid, Bluebeam, QuickPen, etc.).
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must have sufficient to read printed and digital documents.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, access and egress trenches and/or attic spaces and/or confined spaces.
  • Requires hearing ability to communicate in noisy environments.
  • Must be able to recognize alarms, signals, and verbal instructions.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed.
  • Ability to grasp, handle, and manipulate small objects.

Nice To Haves

  • Deep experience in large-scale commercial and industrial sectors such as healthcare, life sciences and semiconductor.
  • Field, craft, or piping trade experience, or bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Understanding of adjacent piping systems (plumbing, process pipe, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Regularly contact the Pre-Construction Departments of our targeted community of General Contractors to identify opportunities.
  • Evaluate opportunities to ensure we pursue projects with the best opportunity for success; are consistent with our business model; exploit our competitive advantages and can contribute margins consistent with the business plan.
  • Review all plans, P&ID’s, specifications, and contracts prior to preparing the estimate to ensure any impacts on the work are identified.
  • Learn and operate a computer based take off and estimating system that can provide reproducible results.
  • Coordinate drawings, scopes and POCs with other trades
  • Prepare RFIs for projects bidding
  • Solicit pricing from vendors/subcontractors
  • Prepare recaps, general conditions, schedule and letters for project
  • Run job reports in preparation for bid review with Estimating Manager
  • Assist in selling the project, including but not limited to developing a scope of supply; presentations if required; entertaining; negotiating and closing.
  • Participate in the kickoff meeting; presenting the scope of work, work plan, budget, unusual requirements and any critical limitations on the scope of our work.
  • Assist in productivity tracking of labor units.
  • Participate in the daily staff meetings for the purposes of identifying any scope deviations, monitoring production and forecasting future work. Assist with developing alternate plans to recover projects where actual performance is not meeting budgeted plan.
