About The Position

The Gear Department is responsible for complex, high-stakes work, and the Project Estimator plays a crucial role in building the foundation for these projects. This role involves owning the estimation process from technical document review through pricing, negotiation, and coordination. The Estimator works closely with contractors, vendors, and the internal Gear team to ensure accuracy, adherence to timelines, and customer confidence. This position is ideal for someone who takes ownership of outcomes and thrives in a growing, complex environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and specifications to select appropriate products.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to getting things right the first time.
  • Proficiency with standard software applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to successfully complete pre-employment screening requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • 1–3 years in the electrical industry preferred.
  • Experience with Eclipse is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Own project estimation end to end, including technical document review, product selection, pricing, and order negotiation.
  • Interpret plans and specifications to select the right products for the application and identify potential issues early.
  • Utilize configuration and pricing software to build accurate and competitive estimates.
  • Direct and coordinate manufacturers to ensure project goals are met within the prescribed timeline and budget.
  • Confer with project staff, contractors, and manufacturers to outline work plans and assign responsibilities.
  • Guide customers through equipment selection, quote review, and customized solutions.
  • Deliver reliable and timely communication to build customer confidence and satisfaction.
  • Prepare clear project reports for management, customers, and other stakeholders.
  • Flag issues such as pricing gaps, spec conflicts, and timeline risks early in the process.
  • Confer with project personnel to provide technical advice and resolve problems.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with contractors and vendors.
  • Turn accurate quotes into closed orders by understanding customer needs and on-site requirements.
  • Partner with the Gear team and Sales staff to close orders and earn repeat business.
