About The Position

The Estimating Engineer supports the quote process for commercial requests for quotation (RFQs), contract pricing, and re-quotes for existing jobs. The role works cross-functionally with Sales/Commercial, Engineering, Operations, Procurement, and other areas as needed to develop costs and pricing in response to customer inquiries. For standard quoting, the position supports Sales Representatives and Customer Service with new quotes for standard roll-forming opportunities under the direction of the Estimating Engineer. It also maintains quote sheets, quote tracking, pipeline updates, underlying data, and methodology in coordination with Sales and Commercial leadership. The role supports complete RFQ/SJR submissions, develops detailed cost estimates, obtains tooling quotes, interprets customer specifications, communicates with internal and external customers, and collects technical and operational information to inform decisions and improve quoting processes. Additional Engineering support and other assigned Engineering duties are part of the role.

Requirements

Associate or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings/prints.
Prior Sales Estimating/Quoting experience.
Experience with AutoCAD and Inventor.
Experience with Microsoft Office and MS Project.
Extensive experience working with Excel.
Strong interpersonal skills and well-developed oral and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Prior estimating experience in a related manufacturing, fabrication, tool and die, roll-forming, or stamping business is preferred but not necessary.
Sales experience or experience in a prior commercial role is a plus.

Responsibilities

Support the quote process for commercial RFQs, contract pricing, and re-quotes for existing jobs.
Work cross-functionally with Sales/Commercial, Engineering, Operations, Procurement, and other functional areas to develop costs and pricing for customer inquiries.
Work with Sales Representatives and Customer Service to support new quotes for standard roll-forming opportunities under the direction of the Estimating Engineer.
Support quote sheets, quote tracking, pipeline updates, underlying data, and methodology with Sales and Commercial leadership.
Work with Sales Representatives to ensure RFQ/SJR submissions are complete.
Work with Engineering, Operations, and Procurement to develop detailed cost estimates.
Work with Engineering to obtain tooling quotes.
Investigate and interpret customer specifications and requirements, and make recommendations to support Hynes’s costing approach.
Communicate with internal and external customers and respond to customer inquiries and support needs.
Collect technical and operational information from Engineering, Commercial, Procurement, and Operations to aid decision-making and improve quote processes and outcomes.
Work with the Sales/Commercial group to prioritize workload.
Engage in other activities in support of Engineering and perform other assigned Engineering-related duties.
