About The Position

Gentry Locke Attorneys is seeking a full-time paralegal to join our General Commercial Practice Group in Roanoke. The paralegal will collaborate directly with multiple attorneys in the firm’s estate planning, trust, and tax planning practices. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, drafting estate planning documents, contracts, and deeds; conferring with clients and beneficiaries; and maintaining organized client files. A successful candidate will be ambitious and organized and work well in a fast-paced environment. The paralegal must have the ability to prioritize and see projects through to completion. Candidates must have a minimum of two years’ experience. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, and Excel is essential. A willingness and ability to learn and expand current technology skills including versatile cloud apps is required in order to navigate the robust technology package the firm maintains.

Requirements

  • Two years’ experience in estate planning, trust management, or tax
  • Knowledge of legal principles and practices acquired through formal paralegal training or its equivalent
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, and Excel is essential
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

  • Drafting estate planning documents, contracts, and deeds
  • Conferring with clients and beneficiaries
  • Maintaining organized client files
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when evaluating legal matters
  • Ability to proofread typed material for contextual, grammatical, typographical, or spelling errors
  • People skills are necessary to communicate in person, by e-mail and telephone, and follow instructions effectively from a diverse group of clients, attorneys, and staff
  • Must be able to convey information with ordinary courtesy and tact
  • Work occasionally requires a high level of effort while organizing and maintaining multiple cases
  • Ability to retrieve, print and distribute volumes of client files and support information
  • Must be able to push and pull packages, and books weighing up to twenty pounds as well as retrieve and replace objects from shelves of up to eight feet high
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Ability to travel to private and public buildings, locally and statewide, via private or public conveyance to assist attorney in attending to client needs on legal matters
