About The Position

The primary responsibility of the ESS Teacher is to provide support to the instructional process by developing ESS students' success in academics, interpersonal skills, and activities of daily learning. This role performs instructional and related duties in accordance with District policies and terms of the teacher contract, while maintaining a cooperative attitude with staff, parents, and students. The position is part of the Pueblo District 60 Innovation Zone, which consists of seven unique schools providing educators with opportunities for challenging and rewarding teaching and learning experiences. Innovation Zone teachers are expected to create genuine relationships with students, recognize each student's uniqueness and potential for success, collaborate with colleagues to design and implement high-quality instruction, pioneer new ideas, and adopt a growth mindset. Teachers within the zone will collaborate with colleagues, build community through professional development and social events, and participate in additional zone-specific "innovation days." Innovation Zone Middle School Teachers in hard-to-fill positions like Mathematics Teacher and ESS teacher qualify for an additional annual stipend, and other positions may receive a bonus based on building needs.

Requirements

  • Valid Colorado Teaching License within 60 days from date of hire
  • Endorsement in applicable level of teaching (i.e Elementary or Secondary)
  • Teacher must be highly qualified in ESS through the following options: Endorsement on a Colorado teaching license in: Special Education Generalist or Special Education Specialist Endorsement or Trainable Child or Educable Mentally Handicapped, Multi-handicapped, Severe Needs Cognitive, Profound Needs
  • 36 semester credit hours applicable to content area
  • Passing score on a State Board of Education approved content exam (currently the ETS Praxis Series) and Elementary Education
  • Be eligible for a Teacher in Residence (TIR) or Alternative Licensing Program (TEE - Teacher Educator Eligibility) in content area
  • Employee must complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check and must be cleared by the Office of Human Resources
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary
  • Support Innovation Zone Purpose, Vision, and Mission as well as the innovation components of the schools to which they apply (e.g.- STEM, AVID, Blended Learning, PLTW, etc.)
  • Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 years successful teaching as demonstrated by references, evaluations and student growth data
  • Experience implementing differentiated instruction in both Literacy and Mathematics.
  • Experience using Common Core State standards to plan instruction.
  • Experience with a blended learning model or a desire to learn
  • Experience with AVID implementation or a desire to learn
  • Experience in a Title I or low-income setting
  • Experience with Teach Like A Champion Strategies
  • Successful experience implementing strong classroom routines and procedures demonstrated by references and evaluations
  • Experience with STEM based educational philosophy and instructional practices.

  • Submit lesson plans for feedback and support.
  • Implement evidenced-based instructional practices that build student knowledge and skills across a variety of content areas.
  • Actively engage in the professional development activities to continuously improve practices.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and work ethic.
  • Communicate effectively and productively with a variety of stakeholders including students, families, and colleagues.
  • Collaborate as a member of a high performing team to drive individual and school improvement.
  • Utilize a standards-based grading protocol.
  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned by Building Administrators.
