The Special Education Teacher will provide support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with the specific responsibility for developing special education students’ success in communication, social interaction, independent functioning and academic achievement. This role includes supervising students and managing behavior to provide a safe learning environment, developing lesson plans, and differentiating group and individual instruction within established curriculum guidelines to meet the individual needs of assigned students. The position requires maintaining regular communication with administrators and the Process Coordinator, adhering to district procedures for state and federal special education requirements, and collaborating with related service providers and general education teachers. The teacher will also communicate regularly with students and parents, instruct students to improve their success in key developmental areas, and develop necessary documents for meetings. Responsibilities include scheduling and facilitating IEP, Review of Existing Data, and Eligibility Determination meetings, collecting and interpreting student progress data, administering developmental and state assessments, and maintaining appropriate special education documentation. The role also involves participating in referral, evaluation, and reevaluation processes, conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), developing and implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and advocating for students and parents. The Special Education Teacher is expected to participate in professional growth activities, stay current with research and strategies, and follow district policies. Professional responsibilities include maintaining professional appearance, punctuality, and consistent attendance.
