About The Position

The Student Union, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit auxiliary that maintains three major facilities at San Jose State University. The Esports Student Supervisor, under the direct supervision of the Esports and Gaming Manager, is responsible for providing general supervision for Esports and Gaming activities within Spartan Recreation, ensuring excellent customer service, and demonstrating a solid understanding of Esports programs and services. This role supports the Student Union, Inc. mission to connect, engage, and inspire Spartan pride within the SJSU Community.

Requirements

  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification (American Red Cross preferred; online certifications will not be accepted).
  • Must be a matriculated SJSU student continuously enrolled at least half-time during the academic term (6.0-8.0 units for undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students).
  • Knowledge of Esports and/or team operations.
  • Basic understanding of Twitch/OBS/X/Instagram/YouTube along with other streaming and content-related programs.
  • Knowledge of program policies and procedures and ability to manage situations requiring resolution and problem-solving.
  • Experience in computer applications such as Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms, etc.) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Computer skills including knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Lightroom, Premiere Pro).
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage conflicts.
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance and attitude.

  • Previous experience working in a competitive sport, e-sport, or team operations environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for inquiries, providing directions and assistance to staff, students, and guests via in-person, phone, and email.
  • Coordinate with clients regarding space needs, policies, procedures, and the reservation process for Esports and Gaming facilities.
  • Supervise esports and gaming events held within and outside the Esports facility.
  • Assist with information gathering and the approval process for space reservations by student groups, campus departments, and other entities.
  • Support operational duties within the Esports and Gaming facility.
  • Facilitate general team operations for all supported Esports titles, including ensuring sign-ups for competitions and processing entry fees.
  • Assist with the recruiting and tryout process for all supported Esports titles.
  • Oversee online interactions via Discord.
  • Schedule computer stations for practice times for supported Esports titles.
  • Manage stream production and content for supported Esports titles, ensuring quality production, scheduling stream events, and recording, editing, and posting content on social media.
  • Conceptualize, compose, design, and deliver digital marketing media and graphic design materials.
  • Collaborate with the Esports and Gaming Manager to meet stream and social media goals.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding esports assets, equipment, logins, digital files, and records.
  • Provide basic IT support to production staff, including troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and assist in setting up and maintaining production-related IT systems and equipment.
  • Liaise with the IT department for escalated technical issues and system upgrades.
  • Enforce SRAC and University policies and procedures.
  • Attend all regularly scheduled staff meetings, training days, and workshops.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
