About The Position

To inspire and prepare all students with confidence, courage and competence to achieve their dreams, contribute to community, and engage in a lifetime of learning by assisting students and bus driver in the transportation of students. Job Summary: Assisting the driver with student management during transport, including maintaining order and safe behavior of students. Providing structure and stability for students with varying disabilities. Working actively with students on the bus to monitor and improve behavior through proactive interventions. Demonstrating sensitivity and tolerance working with the diverse backgrounds of the students, families and staff of Osseo Area Schools. Assisting on the bus with the loading and/or unloading of students. Following through with designated transfer method such as eye-to-eye or hand-to-hand. Working in conjunction with driver after each trip to check the entire bus for children that may have fallen asleep or be hiding on or underneath seats. Maintaining collaborative relationship with the bus driver to maintain positive ridership control. Ensuring that all students are adequately supervised on the bus. Using adaptive equipment correctly and safely. Providing structure and stability for students who display aggressive or inappropriate verbal and/or physical behaviors. Engaging students to mitigate emotional, physical or verbal outbursts and encourage a positive bus ride. Uses school district behavior management strategies to reward positive behaviors and encourage student growth. Monitoring and responding to students with seizure disorders and/or other medical conditions. Cooperating, communicating and providing feedback to teachers, nurses and parents regarding students as needed. Communicating with transportation office regarding problems with pick-up areas, excessive tardiness and other issues encountered while providing transportation services. Providing detailed information regarding no rides, student attendance, and transportation related information as requested by department. Documenting incidents or significant behaviors using the appropriate reporting system. Following district policy and state mandates of reporting any acts of abuse or student maltreatment such as physical abuse, neglect, sexual abuse or mental injury. Keeping all student information strictly confidential. Communicating with appropriate personnel as dictated by Federal, State Mandates and school district policy. Participating in required trainings including but not limited to monthly ESP staff meetings, annual school startup meeting, annual wheelchair and safety securement competency check. Understanding the use and location of school bus safety equipment. Demonstrating the use of wheelchair securement such as tie-downs, brakes and battery shut-off for electric chairs and use of wheelchair lift. Demonstrating the use of seatbelts, buckle guards, safety vest and other passenger restraints. Demonstrating a familiarity with the disabilities of the students being transported.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to perform tasks and work with children.
  • Ability to attend to physical needs of students.
  • Ability to work inside and outside school bus and in the elements.
  • Persons employed shall have the skills needed to perform tasks and work with children, staff and parents.
  • Must have physical capability to lift and attend to physical needs of students as required.
