About The Position

The Education Support Personnel (ESP-1) assists the classroom teacher in creating and maintaining a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment for kindergarten students. The ESP works collaboratively with the teacher to support students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development while helping to establish classroom routines and promote independence.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the classroom teacher with the implementation of daily instructional activities, learning centers, and classroom routines.
  • Support individual students and small groups during literacy, mathematics, and other instructional periods as directed by the teacher.
  • Reinforce classroom expectations and assist students with developing age-appropriate social, emotional, and self-regulation skills.
  • Provide redirection, encouragement, and organizational support to help students remain engaged and successful throughout the school day.
  • Assist students with transitions between activities, classrooms, unified arts classes, lunch, recess, and other school routines.
  • Monitor and supervise students in structured and unstructured settings, including hallways, cafeteria, playground, arrival, and dismissal.
  • Prepare, organize, and maintain instructional materials, classroom resources, and student work as directed by the teacher.
  • Support data collection, observation, and documentation of student progress when requested by the teacher.
  • Assist with classroom assessments, accommodations, and modifications as directed by the teacher.
  • Model and promote appropriate communication, social interaction, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Respect and maintain student confidentiality in all interactions with staff, families, and the school community.
  • Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with classroom teachers, specialists, support staff, and administrators.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development activities, and trainings as directed.
  • Assist with the implementation of behavior support plans and classroom management systems when applicable.
  • Support students with personal care needs, health plans, or safety requirements as directed by the school nurse, teacher, or administrator.
  • Report student concerns, observations, and significant incidents to the classroom teacher promptly.
  • Perform other duties and provide support as assigned by the principal, classroom teacher, special education coordinator, or other administrators.
  • All responsibilities must be performed under the direction and supervision of the assigned classroom teacher and in accordance with district policies and procedures.
