About The Position

The ESOL Liaison will ensure the proper placement of English Language Learner students (ELLs) in accordance with local and state guidelines. This role involves assessing and evaluating new students, maintaining ESOL files, assisting with scheduling, monitoring in-school staffings, and supporting ESOL teachers and bilingual paraprofessionals. The liaison will also serve as the chairperson for the school-based ELL Committee and coordinate parent leadership council meetings. Additionally, the position requires surveying students for reclassification, completing monitoring reports, and coordinating articulation between departments, schools, and agencies for ELL students. The role also includes mentoring new ESOL teachers, demonstrating initiative, maintaining ethical standards, and effective communication.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited educational institution.
  • Valid Florida Educator's Certificate with: ESOL Certification K-12, or ESOL endorsement and appropriate K-12 certification.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' successful teaching experience K-12 preferred.
  • Experience working with English Language Learner students (ELLs).
  • Basic understanding of English Language Learner students and their special needs.
  • Knowledge of program requirements for all phases of the ELL student's educational experience.
  • Knowledge of local and state ESOL guidelines.
  • Ability to interface with school personnel and parents.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a liaison and/or experience training teachers preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and evaluate new students for placement eligibility for ESOL services.
  • Initiate and maintain all ESOL files.
  • Assist with scheduling of English Language Learner students.
  • Monitor and assist in the in-school staffings of all ELL students.
  • Assist schools in the collection of FTE and other required data.
  • Provide training and assistance to ESOL teachers and bilingual paraprofessionals.
  • Serve as the chairperson for the school-based ELL Committee.
  • Coordinate parent leadership council meetings.
  • Survey and assess students for the purpose of reclassification and post-reclassification procedure.
  • Complete appropriate monitoring reports for students exiting the ESOL program for two years.
  • Monitor the students' cumulative records in preparation for audit documentation.
  • Coordinate articulation between departments, schools and/or agencies for ELL students.
  • Serve as a SCIP mentor to new ESOL teachers.
  • Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
  • Provide for a safe and secure workplace.
  • Model and maintain high ethical standards.
  • Follow attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding school matters.
  • Maintain positive relationships with staff, students and parents.
  • Participate in workshops and training sessions as required.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, students and parents.
  • Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
  • Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Prepare all required reports and maintain all appropriate records.
  • Follow all School Board policies, rules and regulations.
  • Exhibit interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member.
  • Demonstrate support for the School District and its goals and priorities.
  • Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
