About The Position

This position involves teaching English as a Second Language to Multilingual Learners (MLs) in various settings including ESL classrooms, vocational classrooms, and co-teaching in Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) classrooms. The role requires collaboration with co-teachers for planning, assessment, and reflection, and teaching students at different English proficiency levels aligned with WIDA Standards. The teacher will also be responsible for developing ESL curriculum, administering assessments, creating language-focused lessons, communicating with families, and working with the Special Education department on IEPs for dually identified students. Additionally, the role includes fulfilling contractual duties, meeting instructional requirements, creating a conducive learning environment, preparing lessons, managing student behavior, implementing district educational philosophy, assessing student progress, maintaining confidentiality, professional development, attending meetings, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

Massachusetts certification as an ESL teacher (5-12)
Required Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement
Required Working knowledge of the Massachusetts Core-Content Frameworks and WIDA ELD Standards
Sufficient proficiency with technology required to perform the essential functions of the position

Responsibilities

Teach English as a Second Language to Multilingual Learners (MLs) in an ESL classroom, vocational classroom, and/or co-teach in Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) classrooms.
Co-teach and support MLs in a vocational setting with expectations to co-plan, co-assess, and co-reflect with co-teacher.
Teach students at varying English Proficiency levels, aligned to WIDA Standards.
Develop and refine in-district ESL curriculum with a student centered, relevant focus.
Administer screeners and required state assessments.
Create lessons for MLs to achieve language goals and objectives.
Keep families and caregivers informed about progress.
Communicate regularly with families.
Work with the Special Education department as applicable to discuss dually identified EL-SWD culturally and linguistically relevant IEP development, accommodations, and modifications, aligned to ML’s language proficiency level and disability.
Actively collaborate with other members of the department and school community.
Fulfills all duties and responsibilities contained in the contract between the Southeastern Regional School District Committee and the Southeastern Regional Teachers’ Association.
Meets and instructs assigned students/classes in the location and at the times designated including push in and pull out servicing of students needing support in building literacy skills.
Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and responsive to the interests of the students.
Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon the request of administrative personnel.
Encourages students to set and maintain standards of behavior.
Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, keeps accurate and timely records of student achievement, and provides reports of student grades and progress as required.
Respects student confidentiality in all contact with any third party.
Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
Conveys a high standard of personal deportment and attire.
Plans and promotes integration activities.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
