About The Position

The ESL Instructor provides specialized instruction for various state and federally funded programs intended to engage a diverse population of learners. The goal is to develop refugees and immigrants’ ability to effectively perform courses of study in English and acquire the English language. This is a part-time position.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferable in Education or related discipline (Or with a minimum of three years TESOL experience is required).
• Availability to work on a variable schedule, including the likelihood of teaching on nights and weekends.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate and build lasting relationships and partnerships with program and field office staff.
• Sensitivity to the development stages and well-being of ELLs.
• Proficient in the use of MS Word, MS Access, MS Excel and database programs.
• Ability to facilitate group discussion, analyze situations, and draw conclusions.
• Highly adaptable and flexible with the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a demanding work environment.
• Must have dedication to human rights of refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and displaced people.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English that meet state and federal standards.
• Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the instructional program so as to ensure that learners meet and exceed learning targets.
• Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages learner responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies.
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of the learner.
• Administer academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating the learners progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
