About The Position

Under the direction of the Coordinator of the ESL Department, the ESL Program and Compliance Facilitator will provide opportunities for the district to improve the BASIC Language Instruction Educational Program (LIEP) and ensure compliance tasks are completed in a timely manner as required by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). Work is directed by state or local procedures or Board policy.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of federal, state and local standards, laws, rules, policies and procedures related to the education of EL students
  • Knowledge of students’ language development.
  • Knowledge of procedures, methods, and strategies pertaining to supporting Multilingual Learners.
  • Knowledge of program and activity evaluation strategies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of current educational theories and practices.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and work collaboratively cross functionally, including working with multiple departments, a variety of school-based staff and community groups.
  • Skilled in time management, flexibility, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to collect, analyze data, establish facts, and draw conclusions to develop appropriate solutions
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; establish and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Ability to coach adults.
  • Ability to determine and plan professional development needs of staff; presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated skill in participatory management, shared decision-making and program planning.
  • Ability to implement functions and activities of the ESL department.
  • NC Teaching License in English as a Second Language
  • Prior successful ESL teaching experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of K-12 ELD Standard Course of Study
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Title III

Responsibilities

  • Assists and supports the ESL Coordinator to develop Title III plans.
  • Collaborates with the ESL Coordinator to improve communication with parents and community in developing the Title III Application.
  • Conducts a yearly needs assessment of the program in collaboration with the ESL Coordinator.
  • Supports school ESL teachers in implementing the BASIC LIEP.
  • Provides supplemental professional development for school personnel through training sessions, observations, modeling.
  • Provides support to schools to enhance intervention support for Multilingual learners.
  • Participates in PLCs to support informed instructional decisions.
  • Collaborates to maintain a county-wide database for the ESL department.
  • Stays current with professional literature, latest research and best practices by attending professional trainings and workshops.
  • Assumes other special tasks/duties as assigned by the ESL Coordinator.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
