About The Position

The ESI (Special Education—Resource Room) Teacher at West Middle School works with other educators to coordinate and adapt curriculum and instruction for students with IEPs in the Least Restrictive Environment. The teacher supports students with a range of educational needs, including behavioral challenges, and develops and implements individualized educational and behavioral plans based on assessment data.

The position is for the 2026–27 school year and is governed by the PEA contract. Applicants must hold a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with full endorsements in at least one area of Special Education.

Requirements

Nice To Haves

• Experience writing and implementing standards-based IEPs and behavioral intervention plans.
• Experience adapting the general education curriculum to meet the multiple needs of students who may exhibit behavioral challenges.

Responsibilities

• Assist with skill assessment and data collection for students with IEPs in reading, language arts, mathematics, and behavior.
• Instruct students with multiple educational needs, including behavioral challenges.
• Coordinate, write, and implement IEPs and behavior intervention plans based on student assessment data.
• Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure appropriate supports, including accommodations and modifications, are provided.
• Implement instruction aligned with current educational research and best practices.
• Ensure compliance with laws requiring data-driven decisions.
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with families, colleagues, and administrators.
• Demonstrate strong attendance, work ethic, organizational skills, and classroom management skills.
• Assume other duties as assigned.
