About The Position

Saiia Construction, a MaTec Company, is seeking an Escort Vehicle Driver in Birmingham, Alabama. The driver operates a vehicle equipped with warning lights and signs to escort trucks hauling oversized heavy equipment loads. The role supports safe transport by helping over-the-road (OTR) drivers navigate roadway hazards and permitted routes, and by coordinating with project managers, dispatch, supervisors, and drivers. The position may be subject to pre-employment screening, including a background check and drug testing.

Requirements

Maintain a valid driver license with an acceptable driving record.
Be aware of all aspects of load movement.

Responsibilities

Assist OTR drivers with switching lanes, blocking, and navigating bridge crossings to help protect the driver, load, and other road users.
Follow the company’s safe driving practices.
Complete pre-trip vehicle safety inspections.
Ensure needed materials, such as a spare tire and tools, are in stock and loaded into vehicles.
Communicate and advise on traffic routing plans and control-point locations with the Mobilization Supervisor.
Plan permitted routes, accounting for state and highway regulations that determine whether the escort driver leads or follows the oversized load.
Coordinate with project managers, dispatch, and the OTR driver to ensure safe transport of oversized heavy equipment and accessories.
Identify potential roadway obstacles, including low passes, narrow roads, and light-load-only streets.
Assist with road repairs and service when required.
Keep the company vehicle clean and orderly, inside and out.
Represent Saiia positively to internal and external customers and vendors.
Perform other duties as assigned.
