About The Position

When you join the growing BILH team, you're not just taking a job, you’re making a difference in people’s lives. This is a Part-Time Escort Messenger position requiring 16 hours per week. Rotating weekends and holidays are required. The position involves assisting patients as they transfer between departments and picking up and delivering specimens. The role requires safely using wheelchairs, stretchers, and beds to transport patients, utilizing proper lifting techniques, and ensuring accuracy by matching patient ID bracelets. The escort must ensure all relevant charts, records, and requisitions accompany the patient and inspect transport equipment before each use. Responding to pages within five minutes and notifying the dispatcher of any issues are also key responsibilities. The role includes transporting deceased patients to the morgue. The employee must comply with all Lahey Clinic Policies and behavioral expectations, maintain courteous interactions, and demonstrate an understanding of the job description and performance expectations. Participation in departmental quality improvement activities and mandatory education is expected.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend English and perform alpha-numeric sorting.
  • In the absence of any of these skills, demonstrates the ability to be thoroughly trained to meet organizational standards.
  • 1 year of experience in a related setting.

Responsibilities

  • Properly and safely uses wheelchairs and stretchers, beds to transport patients throughout the clinic.
  • Utilizes proper lifting techniques and all other safeguards as defined by Lahey Clinic.
  • Assures accuracy by matching patient ID bracelet with information provided on escort request cell phone.
  • Ensures that all relevant charts, records, and requisitions accompany the patient to all testing areas.
  • Picks up and delivers all patient-related items as requested by the dispatcher.
  • Inspects transport equipment prior to each transport to ensure that it is in proper working order, and reports any equipment that may be in need of repair.
  • Responds to pages within five (5) minutes.
  • Notifies dispatcher of any problems with or changes to an assigned call.
  • Incorporates Lahey Clinic Guiding Principles, Mission Statement and Goals into daily activities.
  • Must be comfortable transporting deceased patients to the morgue with security, patient would be ready for transport.
  • Complies with all Lahey Clinic Policies.
  • Complies with behavioral expectations of the department and Lahey Clinic.
  • Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment.
  • Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and consistently adheres to Customer Service standards.
  • Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.
  • Participates in and successfully completes Mandatory Education.
  • Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department.
