ES&H Representative
About The Position
The ES&H Representative assists with interpreting and integrating health and safety requirements into project planning, design, construction, and operations. The role provides technical input and guidance, supports communications, tracks performance trends, and conducts inspections and monitoring to promote employee safety and continuous improvement of project health and safety. The position supports implementation of Bechtel’s Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) program and Management System, including compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and contractual commitments. It also supports program development and maintenance, risk assessment and mitigation, incident reporting, employee training, emergency preparedness, quality assurance, and ES&H field and office personnel. The role is based at the Louisiana LNG project near Lake Charles, Louisiana, and requires extensive field inspections in construction-site conditions.
Requirements
- Typically, a university hire with 1–2 years of experience or 5–6 years of relevant work experience.
- Specialized knowledge in a safety specialty, such as personal protective equipment, lockout/tagout, fall protection, excavation, or People Based Safety; engineering, such as civil, process safety, or mechanical; or a related discipline.
- Knowledge of safety management, monitoring programs, principles, and methodologies.
- Knowledge of safety and health laws and regulations and applicable agencies’ permitting processes and responsibilities.
- Knowledge of engineering, construction, and subcontract work processes.
- Oral and written communication skills and knowledge of computer applications.
- Physical ability to conduct field inspections, including extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders and scaffolding, working on elevated platforms and uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces.
- Some lifting may be required.
- Ability to walk into and out of the project.
- Ability to use standard issued personal protective equipment required for assigned tasks.
Responsibilities
- Assist with implementation of Bechtel’s ES&H program and Management System, including compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and contractual commitments.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining programs, systems, and procedures for employee safety and health and protection of the environment and communities.
- Maintain ES&H databases, including incident events, audit and assessment findings, and corrective actions.
- Analyze data to identify performance trends and contributing factors for continuous improvement.
- Help identify and coordinate software systems used by ES&H personnel.
- Lead risk assessments, studies, mitigation planning, and monitoring for moderately complex ES&H issues.
- Prepare communications, reports, and documents for program execution and records retention.
- Assist with incident notifications, investigations, and reporting.
- Recommend process, procedure, and work-activity improvements to minimize hazards.
- Participate in and support employee training, emergency preparedness, and quality assurance programs.
- Coordinate ES&H recognition programs.
- Support ES&H field and office personnel across ES&H disciplines.
- Conduct field inspections and monitoring.
