About Harris County and Universal Services: Harris County Universal Services is transforming the way the County does business and seeking a ERP System Administration to join our team. Universal Services is the enterprise IT solutions center for the departments and offices of Harris County, providing Information Technology, Public Safety and Justice Technologies, 311 Constituent Engagement Services, Fleet Services, and Records and Information Governance Services. Harris County is the third largest and most diverse county in the nation, with a population of more than 4.7 million. Harris County Commissioners Court, the County’s governing body, directs a budget of more than $4 billion providing essential services including flood control, infrastructure, healthcare, housing, and justice administration. Position Overview: The PeopleSoft System Administrator manages our ERP environments including installation, configuration, maintenance and monitoring of all the components and technical aspects of web, application, integration and batch tiers. As needed, the Sys adm will also perform tools and application (PUM) upgrades, patching, running change assistant and compare reports between systems, building and execution of DMS, SQL or Linux shell scripts, code migrations and performance tuning. The ERP Sys adm will work closely with management, functional/development teams, infrastructure groups and the business, as needed, to accomplish projects and understand various factors that may impact application requirements and/or performance. Strong troubleshooting and research skills are required when assisting with application problems, projects and potential bug fixes from the vendor. Some tasks, including patching, upgrades, production releases and potential on-call rotation, will require after-hours monitoring and execution as needed to maintain system health, minimize outages to the business and ERP teams, facilitate team communication, resolve issues and address alerts/activities in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree (in Computer/Information Science, Engineering or related field)
  • 7 years’ experience as application system administrator (sysadm) supporting Peoplesoft HCM and/or FSCM environments, but in production and non-production
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to work well within a team and be independently motivated
  • Solid Linux/Unix scripting skills
  • Strong technical troubleshooting skills

Responsibilities

  • Ensure maximum availability, reliability, performance, security and integrity of production and DR databases with regular monitoring and maintenance of ERP applications, job statuses, log files, audit trails and overall system health.
  • Assist DBA, App Sys admin, development and functional teams in project work with tasks including, but not limited to, troubleshooting issues/errors, tuning, scripting, refreshing systems, design and maintenance of security models (users, roles, permission lists, dynamic security, tiles, department security, tree maintenance, encryption, redaction), writing reports/PSQueries, configuration of application features and other tasks as needed.
  • Ensure proper patching of systems by researching, testing and implementing patches of technical platforms and systems in coordination with database and server teams.
  • Improve team efficiency by development, testing, maintenance and execution of automation scripts for daily reporting or Sys admin tasks, patching and other utilities.
  • Support team by providing documentation and cross training of scripts, standards, policies and procedures as needed.
  • Maintain cooperative teamwork mentality and assist as needed.
  • Be responsive and flexible while making reasonable efforts to make yourself available when after-hours assistance is needed. This includes responding to texts/calls.
