About The Position

The ER Tech is a professional caregiver who works under the guidance and supervision of a registered nurse and provides assigned care within the role’s scope of practice. The position requires adequate knowledge to approach patients of all age groups and ongoing attention to safety responsibilities and initiatives. At Baptist Health Corbin’s 28-bed, Level IV Trauma Designated Emergency Department, the role supports around-the-clock care for patients with conditions ranging from non-emergent complaints to life-threatening illnesses and injuries. The ED includes a split-flow area for fast-track patients and a behavioral health intake area for patients with mental and behavioral health concerns. This is a part-time, third-shift position in Corbin, Kentucky.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
BLS/ACLS.
Glucometer training.

Nice To Haves

Previous laboratory or customer service experience.
Data-entry and computer experience and/or phlebotomy or point-of-care testing experience.
Nursing Assistant experience or prior phlebotomy training/experience.

Responsibilities

Assist with patient admission, room orientation, safety features, and securing valuables.
Obtain vital signs, apply cardiac monitors, and perform EKG testing with proper lead placement.
Support nurses and providers with patient care, including transfers, discharges, splinting, and wound care.
Collect blood, urine, and other specimens in accordance with hospital policy.
Recognize and report abnormal heart rhythms or vital signs to the care team.
Maintain clean, stocked, and safe patient care areas; locate and manage equipment.
Communicate professionally with patients, families, and staff to promote a positive environment.
Follow hospital policies, infection-control practices, and safety standards, and participate in required training.
Continually monitor and adhere to safety responsibilities and initiatives.
