About The Position

The Emergency Department Technician works collaboratively with Emergency Department physicians, providers, nursing, and EMT staff to deliver high-quality, competent patient care throughout each visit. This role requires exceptional technical skills and clinical knowledge specific to the Emergency Department setting. Emergency Department Technician supports department flow by facilitating shift organization, assisting with patient care, and promoting efficient throughput. The incumbent is expected to perform all duties while adhering to the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct, acting in the best interests of Three Crosses Regional Hospital, and fully supporting its mission, vision, and values.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 1+ years of EMS experience or other hospital/clinical experience (CNA or PCT preferred)
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call.
  • BLS Certification

Responsibilities

  • Takes direction from the RN, EMT, or physician to maintain a high standard of patient care.
  • Provides emergency care by monitoring patient vital signs and reporting changes promptly.
  • Assists with emergency medical procedures, including wound care, dressing changes, and splint application.
  • Clinical knowledge to perform general interventions for the patient including taking vital signs, phlebotomy lab draws, 12 lead ECG’s, patient transfers, obtaining IV access, or acting quickly in an emergency.
  • Assist with direct/indirect patient care under supervision of licensed nurse.
  • Obtains medical specimens such as blood, urine, or other samples as directed.
  • Cleans and restocks carts and patient rooms; replaces linens as needed.
  • Decontaminates equipment, instruments, and supplies in accordance with infection-control standards.
  • Assists with transporting patients to other departments as required.
  • Serve as a resource for the Emergency Department by answering telephones, call lights, and interdepartmental communications
  • Greet patients, visitors, EMS personnel, and ancillary staff in a professional, courteous, and customer-focused manner.
  • Accurately relay information between physicians, nursing staff, ancillary departments, and other hospital personnel.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members, including physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, EMS personnel, and support staff.
  • Assist with maintaining inventory of department supplies and ensure appropriate stocking levels.
  • Monitor expiration dates of supplies and equipment and report concerns as appropriate.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, and infection prevention standards.
  • Protect patient privacy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations and hospital policies.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Attends 80% of staff meetings as scheduled
  • Attend meetings as assigned
