The ER Tech is responsible for all basic patient care duties. This includes, but is not limited to, therapeutic treatment as ordered by the physician on duty, operation of laboratory equipment, patient discharge, and education. Key responsibilities include triaging patients to determine their treatment location (emergency room versus urgent care), providing general patient care including therapeutic and diagnostic intervention, and offering age and education-specific education to patients. The role also involves maintaining a clean work environment, which may include housekeeping duties like emptying trash, mopping floors, and cleaning counters. Adherence to company policies, HIPAA regulations, and fostering a friendly, respectful, and customer-focused work environment are essential. The ER Tech will accurately interpret physician instructions, assist physicians with patient treatment, administer medications, collect specimens, and conduct laboratory tests. Collaboration with health team members is crucial for patient well-being. The position requires executing physician orders, including medication administration, treatments, and IVs, and observing and documenting patient responses to medications. Preparing specimens and operating lab equipment, along with reviewing and upholding lab policies, are also part of the role. Mandatory yearly skills training, maintaining professional certifications and licenses, completing CEUs and assigned education on time, and attending staff meetings are required. The role also involves providing patient education and discharge instructions, and following infection control and OSHA safety guidelines. The physical demands of the job include regular talking and hearing, specific vision abilities (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, focus adjustment), and intermittent physical activity such as standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and lifting/supporting patients. The work environment is a healthcare setting with potential exposure to radiation, noise, infectious/communicable diseases, blood and bloodborne diseases, chemicals, fumes, odors, gases, and dusts. There is also exposure to moving mechanical parts and toxic or caustic materials, with moderate noise from equipment. The position requires standing, walking, sitting, using hands, reaching, and potentially climbing, kneeling, or crouching.
