About The Position

The ER Tech II performs patient care as directed by nursing or medical staff, documenting on the medical record. This role is responsible for achieving and maintaining patient care competencies as determined by Emergency Department management. The ER Tech II ensures an adequate supply of equipment needed for patient care, assists with clerical functions, transports patients and equipment interdepartmentally, and ensures patient care areas, storage rooms, and equipment are clean and maintained. Additionally, the ER Tech II collaborates with nurses and physicians to maintain waiting room safety and keep vital signs up to date. This position also requires adherence to patient safety practices, including reporting patient safety events and near misses, promoting a culture of safety, communicating openly, and reporting intimidating behavior.

Requirements

Certified as CNA, EMT, paramedic, or ERT with 2~3 yrs. of hospital or pre~hospital patient care experience or acceptance at an accredited medical school or completions of 2~3 years of nursing school clinical rotations or completion of a certified medical assisting program.
Ability to move / lift patients and push carts, etc.
Ability to use keyboard, see computer screen.
CNA, EMT, ERT, MA certification
Current CPR certification
Completion of the age specific competency
Very heavy lifting: Up to 100 pounds occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds frequently and/or in excess of 20 pounds constantly.
May experience unpleasant odors, exposures to blood~borne, air~borne pathogens, and opportunistic pathogens.
High level of stress due to unpredictable patient volumes and degree of critical services needed.
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.

Responsibilities

Ensure an adequate supply of equipment needed for patient care.
Assist with clerical functions such as telephone and order entry, backs-up clerical associates and greeters for breaks and meals.
Transport patients and equipment interdepartmentally.
Ensure that patient care areas, storage rooms, and equipment are clean and maintained.
Collaborate with nurses and physicians to maintain waiting room safety and keep vital signs up to date.
Report patient safety events and near misses in timely fashion.
Adhere to all behavioral and procedural patient safety practices.
Promote culture of safety through identifying threats to patient safety and intervening to prevent patient harm.
Communicate openly and promote team work.
Report intimidating behavior and other threats to patient safety promptly.
