About The Position

Under supervision of the Radiologist, the MRI technician will be responsible for operating and maintaining a magnetic resonance imaging scanner (MRI) to obtain images from patients which are used by the provider to diagnose the nature and extent of designated pathologies. This role also involves participating in and executing imaging protocols, providing guidance to staff and students, educating patients, preparing and positioning patients for imaging, selecting appropriate techniques, calibrating equipment, obtaining and managing image data, maintaining documentation, performing quality assurance, managing supplies, adhering to policies, assisting with scheduling, and maintaining professional growth.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an ARRT approved Radiologic Technologist Program and registered by the ARRT (R).
  • MRI registry within (1) year of hire date.
  • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and skill in recognition of normal and abnormal variants.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the principals and physics of magnetic resonance imaging.
  • Three years of previous experience as a staff technologist.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification or attained within 3 months of hire.
  • Obtain NYS DOH approval for contrast injections within 6 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of previous experience as an MRI technologist with MRI registry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operating and maintaining a magnetic resonance imaging scanner (MRI) to obtain images from patients.
  • Participating in the establishment of imaging protocols.
  • Executing imaging protocols.
  • Providing guidance and instruction to staff and/or student in imaging procedures as required.
  • Educating the patients in magnetic resonance imaging procedures.
  • Preparing and positioning the patient for imaging procedures.
  • Selecting appropriate imaging techniques.
  • Calibrating console and peripheral hardware.
  • Obtaining images, producing CD records and backups from desk to storage media, and transferring to workstations.
  • Entering and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Performing quality assurance on magnetic resonance equipment.
  • Performing physical inventory and maintaining clinical supplies.
  • Adhering to established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, and safety standards.
  • Assisting in clinical subject scheduling.
  • Maintaining professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations.
  • Performing miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
