About The Position

This position is for a full-time Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department (ED) at Clarke County Hospital (CCH). The role focuses on delivering high-quality patient care using the nursing process, demonstrating knowledge and skills in accordance with established policies and standards. The RN will utilize an age-appropriate, holistic approach for patients and families, delegate and direct other healthcare team members, and use critical thinking for nursing interventions. The position also involves patient education, including assessing needs, providing teaching, developing a plan of care, consulting resources, and giving discharge instructions. Basic performance criteria include adhering to CCH Standards of Behaviors, hospital policies, and safety guidelines, maintaining reliable attendance, keeping licenses and certifications current, and practicing knowledge of relevant regulations (HIPAA, DIA, DNV, OSHA, EMTALA). The role requires completing annual education and competency requirements, understanding compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs, and demonstrating initiative to improve quality and customer service.

Requirements

  • Current RN license
  • Current certifications required for the position

  • Knowledge of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers high quality care utilizing the nursing process while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.
  • Utilizes an age appropriate, holistic approach for the patients and families served in the Emergency Department.
  • Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare team members within the scope of practice.
  • Utilizes critical thinking in developing nursing interventions while maintaining responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.
  • Float to other areas to assist in providing nursing support/cares as needed.
  • Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care.
  • Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient’s and their families’ age specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension.
  • Assist in developing a plan of care for the patient.
  • Consults appropriate resources when indicated.
  • Give written/printed discharge instructions to ED patients being discharged as outlined by the physician including but not limited to follow up cares, medications and referrals.
  • Demonstrates Clarke County Hospital Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to hospital policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to meet needs of the department with regular, reliable attendance.
  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, DIA, DNV, OSHA, EMTALA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
