About The Position

This position is for a full-time Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) working day shifts. The role focuses on delivering high-quality patient care in the Emergency Department, utilizing the nursing process and demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills. The nurse will employ an age-appropriate, holistic approach for patients and families, delegate tasks to other healthcare team members within their scope of practice, and use critical thinking for nursing interventions. The position also involves floating to other areas to provide nursing support as needed. Additionally, the role includes assessing patient and family needs, providing education, making necessary referrals for continuity of care, and assisting in developing a plan of care. The nurse will also provide written discharge instructions to patients being discharged from the ED. The position requires adherence to Clarke County Hospital (CCH) Standards of Behaviors, hospital policies, procedures, and safety guidelines, as well as maintaining regular and reliable attendance. Employees must maintain current licenses and certifications, practice knowledge of HIPAA, DIA, DNV, OSHA, EMTALA, and other regulatory agencies, and complete all annual education and competency requirements. The role also requires knowledge of compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs and demonstrating initiative to improve quality and customer service.

Requirements

  • Current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, DIA, DNV, OSHA, EMTALA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completion of all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Knowledge of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers high quality care utilizing the nursing process while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.
  • Utilizes an age appropriate, holistic approach for the patients and families served in the Emergency Department.
  • Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare team members within the scope of practice.
  • Utilizes critical thinking in developing nursing interventions while maintaining responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.
  • Float to other areas to assist in providing nursing support/cares as needed.
  • Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care.
  • Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient’s and their families’ age specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension.
  • Assist in developing a plan of care for the patient.
  • Consults appropriate resources when indicated.
  • Give written/printed discharge instructions to ED patients being discharged as outlined by the physician including but not limited to follow up cares, medications and referrals.
  • Demonstrates ability to meet needs of the department with regular, reliable attendance.
  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, DIA, DNV, OSHA, EMTALA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
  • Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.
