About The Position

This role focuses on delivering high-quality patient care in the Emergency Department, utilizing the nursing process and demonstrating strong clinical skills. The position involves an age-appropriate, holistic approach to patients and families, delegation of tasks to other healthcare team members, and critical thinking in developing nursing interventions. The nurse will also be responsible for patient education, including assessing needs, providing teaching, developing care plans, and giving discharge instructions. Additionally, the role requires adherence to Clarke County Hospital's Standards of Behaviors, policies, procedures, and safety guidelines, as well as maintaining regulatory compliance and completing annual education requirements.

Requirements

  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, DIA, DNV, OSHA, EMTALA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse.
  • Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers high-quality care utilizing the nursing process while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.
  • Utilizes an age appropriate, holistic approach for the patients and families served in the Emergency Department.
  • Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare team members within the scope of practice.
  • Utilizes critical thinking in developing nursing interventions while maintaining responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.
  • Float to other areas to assist in providing nursing support/cares as needed.
  • Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care.
  • Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient’s and their families’ age specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension.
  • Assist in developing a plan of care for the patient.
  • Consults appropriate resources when indicated.
  • Give written/printed discharge instructions to ED patients being discharged as outlined by the physician including but not limited to follow up cares, medications and referrals.
