The role may also involve floating to other areas to provide nursing support as needed. Additionally, the position involves assessing patient and family needs, providing education, making necessary referrals for continuity of care, and developing plans of care. The nurse will also consult appropriate resources and provide written discharge instructions to ED patients as directed by physicians. Basic performance criteria include adhering to hospital standards, policies, procedures, and safety guidelines, maintaining reliable attendance, and keeping current licenses and certifications. The role requires knowledge of various healthcare regulations (HIPAA, DIA, DNV, OSHA, EMTALA), completion of annual education and competency requirements, and understanding of compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs.
