About The Position

This is a full-time position in a fast-paced 44-bed Emergency Department that treats an average of more than 150 patients per day. The department handles acute cardiovascular and neurovascular emergencies, general medical emergencies, traumatic injuries, and psychiatric patients. It is recognized by the American Heart Association as both a STEMI receiving center and a designated Primary Stroke Center. The patient population ranges from neonates to geriatrics. An extensive orientation program is provided, allowing nurses to work autonomously with a wide range of clinical specialties. The ED fosters high levels of teamwork and collaboration with a multi-disciplinary group of professionals. New graduates with appropriate training and background are welcomed.

Responsibilities

  • Implements the nursing process for each patient regardless of age (i.e. infancy to geriatric) assigned to his/her care and is responsible for the patient’s care within the parameters of the Kentucky Nurse Practice Act.
  • Promotes positive patient outcomes and quality of care.
  • Initiates change through active involvement in unit-based and hospital shared-governance councils.
  • Utilizes critical thinking skills and exercises appropriate nursing judgment.
  • Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes.
  • Serves as a role model by actively participating in the process of continuous professional development, teaching and learning across the healthcare continuum.
