Completes the registration of patients into the hospital computer system according to hospital procedures. This includes performing bedside registration for Emergency Room patients, pre-registering and registering patients for direct admission, scheduled admissions, outpatient surgeries and outpatient ancillary services to allow timely and accurate billing. The role involves verifying and assuring accurate documentation of financial and demographic information, updating the computer system, and making copies of insurance cards. It also requires explaining and obtaining signatures for consent forms, witnessing signatures, and scanning all necessary documents. The representative will enter PA # and pre-cert numbers, scan PATA orders and off-site registrations, and obtain pre-certification, referrals, and prior authorizations within 24 hours of admission or the next working day. Keying required certification information into hospital computer systems, coordinating with the Case Management Department for third-party benefit programs, and coordinating with Patient Access Specialists for benefit verification are also key functions. Additionally, the role involves collecting co-pays/deductibles for ED services, functioning as a Cashier when the office is closed, accepting payments for deposits and valuables, and issuing receipts. Assistance with Hospital Switchboard coverage, responding to codes, and carrying a responding phone when no dedicated operator is on duty are also part of the responsibilities. All activities must be conducted in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and hospital policies, including Blood and Body Substance Precautions. Patients will be escorted to assigned nurses’ stations or directed to ancillary departments upon completion of registration.
