Completes the registration of patients into the hospital computer system according to hospital procedures. This includes performing bedside registration for Emergency Room patients, pre-registering and registering patients for direct admission, scheduled admissions, outpatient surgeries and outpatient ancillary services to allow timely and accurate billing. The role also involves verifying and assuring accurate documentation of financial and demographic information, updating the computer system, and making copies of insurance cards. Explaining consent forms, obtaining signatures, and witnessing signatures are crucial. The representative will scan all necessary forms, enter certification and referral information, and obtain pre-certification, referrals, and prior authorizations within 24 hours of admission or the next working day. Keying certification information into hospital computer systems, coordinating with the Case Management Department, and coordinating with Patient Access Specialists are also key functions. The role includes collecting co-pays/deductibles for ED services, functioning as a Cashier when the office is closed, accepting payments for admissions and valuables, and issuing receipts. Additionally, the representative will assist with Hospital Switchboard coverage, respond to codes, and carry a responding phone when no dedicated operator is on duty. Miscellaneous duties as assigned by the supervisor are expected, and all activities must be conducted in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and hospital policies, including Blood and Body Substance Precautions. Finally, the representative will escort patients to their assigned nurses’ station or direct them to ancillary departments.
