About The Position

Fidelity Investments has a long history in managing equity portfolios, dating back to the 1940s. The Equity division manages diversified and industry-specific funds for millions of investors, comprising portfolio managers, research analysts, research associates, sector specialists, and traders. The division utilizes proprietary research, disciplined portfolio management, and a sophisticated trading process to achieve superior long-term results. The role of Sector Specialist is within the Equity Research Department, contributing to the investment process by partnering with analysts, associates, and portfolio managers. This role supports research insights and portfolio decisions, reporting directly to a Managing Director of Research.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 1–2+ years of relevant experience in security investing, financial analysis, accounting, valuation, economics, or statistics.
  • Strong Excel/VBA skills and a passion for working with data.
  • Proficiency in R and/or Python.
  • Familiarity with financial databases such as Bloomberg and FactSet.
  • Passion for leveraging AI to enhance research productivity and efficacy as well as a commitment to sharing best practices to accelerate adoption of AI tools.
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in fundamental security analysis, quantitative methods, and data science.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate research findings.
  • Commitment to rigorous, evidence-based analysis and the integrity of the scientific method.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in finance, investment-related disciplines, hard sciences, mathematics, or CFA designation is a plus.
  • Experience in the real estate sector is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide research support to equity analysts and associates across multiple sectors.
  • Aggregate and analyze industry data to identify trends and insights.
  • Create visualizations of industry trends and analytical results.
  • Streamline data collection and management processes for efficiency.
  • Conduct analyses across fundamental, quantitative, and data science disciplines, including the use of large language models and artificial intelligence.
  • Interpret findings, draw conclusions, and make actionable recommendations.
  • Collaborate on stock-specific and industry presentations for internal stakeholders.
  • Partner with global sector specialists, industry sources, Wall Street contacts, and internal teams (data science, technology, market data) to enhance research capabilities.
