About The Position

The Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB) supports the business operations of state agencies through a variety of services. This position involves installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing building automation systems (BAS) and utility metering systems within state-owned and/or operated buildings in the East Region. This includes system components such as thermostats, valves, pneumatic controls, direct digital controls, variable air volume controls, and hydronic and steam systems associated with heating, cooling, and ventilation. The role requires creating and maintaining partnerships with Facilities Supervisors and labor/trades staff for optimal customer service and efficiency. The facilities covered include Southeast Michigan Psychiatric Hospital and Center for Forensic Psychiatry, which encompass over 750,000 square feet of space. For the Equipment Technician 12 level, a high level of expertise is required for building automation system analysis, programming, commissioning, and modification to ensure tenant comfort and energy efficiency. This level also serves as the lead on commissioning projects and mentors other staff.

Requirements

  • Possession of an associate degree in electrical, electromechanical, or electronics engineering, computer science, engineering, or electronics technology.
  • Equipment Technician 8: No specific type or amount of experience required.
  • Equipment Technician 9: One year of experience in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and electronic equipment equivalent to an Equipment Technician 8.
  • Equipment Technician E10: Two years of experience in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical and electronic equipment equivalent to an Equipment Technician, including one year equivalent to an Equipment Technician 9.
  • Equipment Technician 12: Four years of experience in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and electronic equipment equivalent to an Equipment Technician, including two years equivalent to an Equipment Technician E10 or one year equivalent to an Equipment Technician 11.
  • Completion of 60 semester (90 term) credits including 24 semester (36 term) credits in electrical, electromechanical, or electronics engineering, electronics technology, computer science, highway or traffic technology, engineering, or mathematics may substitute for the education requirement.
  • A certificate from a two-year, post-secondary, technical program in electrical, electromechanical, or electronics technology may substitute for the education requirement.
  • Four years of experience in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and electronic equipment may substitute for the education requirement.
  • Possession of a bachelor’s degree or higher with 16 semester (24 term) credits in job-specific or related coursework may substitute for the education and experience requirements for Equipment Technician E10.
  • Must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States within three business days of beginning employment.
  • Official transcript must bear college/university certification (seal, logo, watermark, letterhead), Registrar's signature, and date.

Nice To Haves

  • Some positions may require possession of the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) issued by the Secretary of State.
