DSHS FTAA Equipment Technician 3
About The Position
We're looking for an equipment technician to perform journey level inspections, troubleshoot and diagnoses, service, and make minor mechanical repairs on all types of equipment used on the facility grounds, vehicles, buses, tractor-trailers and large & small street sweeper equipment. You will work directly for an Equipment Technician Supervisor to analyze needs and draft purchase requisitions for procurement of new and replacement of commercial, industrial, and agency specialized parts and equipment. Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary. Those hired to for this opportunity may be entitled to an additional 20% assignment pay due to Heavy Equipment Maintenance work greater than 26,000 lbs.
Requirements
- High school graduation or possession of a GED certificate AND three years of experience in the performance of preventative maintenance and repairs assisting a journey level mechanic.
- A valid state driver's license is required
- Two years of experience as a maintenance worker in building and equipment maintenance, construction, and/or repair/work
Nice To Haves
- Ability to work a variety of systems; WSH has a collection of equipment ranging from 50 plus years of age to the newest technology available today
- Code knowledge regarding life safety equipment such as generators
- Being able to adapt to equipment that ranges in 50 years
- CDL desired for the position; this ensures they can operate the vehicle they are repairing
Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, and make needed repairs to vehicles over 15,000 GVW, mechanical equipment such as specialty trucks, backhoes, heavy trucks and accessories, snow blowers, loaders, sweepers, oil distributors, catch basin cleaners, and all other state-owned equipment used in facility maintenance and engineering
- Inspect, diagnose, and make repairs to facility owned equipment and vehicles
- Operate shop equipment such as grinders, vacuum gauge, voltage and regulator tester, wheel balancer, drill press, wheel pullers, lathes, jacks, air tools and other equipment used in heavy and/or industrial/commercial equipment repair
- Arrange for demonstration and testing of new industrial commercial equipment to analyze potential for meeting department requirements
- Issue equipment and keys as needed
- Inspect vehicles prior to dispatching and upon returning to the facility
- Equipment Technician 3 will back up the Equipment Technician Supervisor
- Get familiarized with the campus, policies and procedures
- Complete all required training
- Manage the repairs of hospital equipment and vehicles
- Stay up to date on documentation regarding equipment
