About The Position

DSHS's Finance, Technology, and Analytics Administration (FTAA) is looking to hire a licensed CDL Truck Driver 2 for the Eastern State Hospital and Lakeland Village Residential Habilitation Center campus in Medical Lake. This is a non-perm position and is currently expected to last around 5-6 months, though this may change due to business needs. You will have stable employment with all driving being local with no overhead expenses. You will work with a variety of transportation equipment. DSHS places your safety as a high priority with every intention to make your work responsibilities physically easier. We also provide allowance for protective equipment. The work that you do immediately contributes to the rehabilitation of others. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

Requirements

  • No restrictions on Class A or B CDL with a P-1 Passenger Endorsement.
  • Valid driver's license free from serious traffic violations.
  • One year of experience operating commercial class vehicles of at least 18,000 GVW and/or transporting passengers.
  • One year as a Truck Driver 1 for Washington State will substitute for experience.

  • Knowledgeable in rules of safe operation of equipment and State Motor Vehicle laws.
  • Experienced in servicing and maintaining automotive equipment.
  • Ability to drive in inclement weather.
  • Capable to load/unload equipment.
  • Forklift operation knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Operate medium to large trucks, buses, and special vehicles between 28,000 GVW and 60,000 GVW to safely deliver food, laundry, furniture, and commissary supplies.
  • Operate vehicles such as trash/recycle trucks, street sweepers, forklifts, fleet cars, and seasonal snow equipment.
  • Load, unload, and transport freight, mail, and other packages by hand and use of liftgate, forklift, pallet jack, and hand dolly.
  • Transport staff safely and patiently throughout the campus and off-campus day trips during all weather conditions in passenger vans or buses, which may include assisting patients and clients in and out of the vehicle or on/off wheelchair lift.
  • Perform frequent climbing into trucks and out onto concrete.
  • Conduct daily safety inspections, fueling, maintaining mileage logs, and cleaning interiors and exteriors of vehicles.
