About The Position

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is looking to hire an Equipment Shop Supervisor to manage the day-to-day field operation of vehicle and equipment repairs assigned to the work team. This position interfaces and interacts with Management staff to determine and furnish the appropriate support for vehicle and equipment requirements at the Arizona State Prison Complex -Tucson.

Requirements

• Power/drive train system inspections and diagnoses
• Repair procedures of electrical systems, inspections, and diagnoses
• Electrical/electronic controls
• Hydraulic system inspections
• Diagnosis, repair procedures, and operating principles of gasoline and diesel fueled internal combustion engines
• Principles and practices of scheduled preventive maintenance programs
• Automotive/truck and heavy equipment operating procedures
• Using computerized diagnostic analyzer equipment to troubleshoot and repair electric, electronic, and mechanical systems
• Using a wide variety of specialized tools and equipment to service, repair, and maintain automotive, truck, and heavy construction equipment
• Preparing accurate repair estimates and establishing the best and most effective course of repair action
• Using repair, service, and overhaul manuals
• Performing quality control inspections
• Estimating time and material costs of repairs on equipment
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical and electronic hydraulic system problems
• Perform safety and preventive maintenance inspections
• Overhaul, repair, and service a wide variety of automotive and heavy construction equipment
• Follow and effectively communicate verbal and written instructions
• Prioritize, schedule, and track repairs and services for a large fleet operation
• Comprehend and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
• Work in a prison environment

Nice To Haves

• Requires possession of valid driver license and a Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with a “P” endorsement within the first six months from date of hire. Retention of said licenses and endorsements are required during the period of employment. Additional CDL endorsements may be required during the period of employment to the position’s assignment.
• Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training in accordance with Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.
• All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
• Positions in this classification participate in the Corrections Officer Retirement Plan (CORP). Current ADCRR Employees: Consult with your respective Human Resources Liaison if you are in a different retirement plan than the one indicated above.

Responsibilities

• Trains, coordinates and supervises inmate mechanics
• Analyzes needed work repairs
• Sets repair priorities and conducts vehicle inspections
• Determines the need for repair parts, supplies and accessories
• Enters work related data into department’s automated fleet management database
• Maintains inventory of parts, supplies and tools
• Prepares purchase orders for final approval and processing
• Keeps current with latest technology
• Drives on State business
• Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment
