About The Position

Drill-Tech is seeking an HDD Equipment Operator to support horizontal directional drilling crews on underground utility projects in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Drill-Tech is headquartered in Chester, Maryland, and performs HDD and underground utility work throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. This hands-on field position involves operating HDD equipment and supporting drilling operations while working closely with foremen, locators, and crew members. Project-based travel is required as needed.

Requirements

• Experience operating HDD equipment or related heavy equipment.
• Experience operating skid steers, excavators, loaders, or similar equipment.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to work outdoors and travel as project needs require.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with Vermeer 23x30, 24x40, or similar directional drills.
• Class A CDL.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification.
• Experience operating Vermeer 100-series drills or larger HDD equipment.
• Experience with 300,000 lb or 500,000 lb maxi rigs.
• Experience with mud systems, drilling fluids, pumps, and recyclers.
• Experience with DigiTrak or ParaTrack locating systems.
• Experience with McElroy fusion equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate HDD equipment during drilling operations.
• Assist with drilling, reaming, pullback, and pipe installation.
• Operate support equipment, including skid steers, excavators, and loaders.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and preventative maintenance.
• Assist with mud mixing and drilling fluid management.
• Support equipment mobilization and demobilization.
• Work closely with foremen, locators, and field crews.
• Maintain safe work practices and jobsite standards.
