Requirements

  • Must meet the Company's GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS.
  • Must have at least one (1) year's experience as a Senior Constructor, Groundman Driver "A", or Helper Driver "A", or one and one-half (1-1/2) year's experience as a Mechanic Underground.
  • Must have sufficient mechanical ability and show an aptitude for making minor adjustments, repairs, and maintenance on equipment operated.
  • Must be able to read construction drawings and use a transit for determining depth and size of trenches or holes and grade elevations.
  • Must show good judgment concerning clearance from overhead wires, obstructions, and underground cables, gas, water, and other lines.
  • Must have the necessary valid driver's license.
  • Must pass the P. U. C. 0. physical exam.
  • Must pass the examination for entrance into the grade of Equipment Operator, including knowledge of the Traffic Safety Code, equipment and highway locations, and efficient and safe equipment operation.
  • Must have knowledge of soil conditions as to stability and digging conditions.
  • Must be able to use a telephone and mobile radio to receive and transmit instructions.
  • Must be able to make a clear and legible written record of all operations.
  • Ability to obtain a CDL license.
  • Body weight limitation of 285 lbs. or less due to OSHA regulations.
  • Must possess all of the basic/required qualifications.
  • Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Operates pole hauling equipment, earth boring machines, trenching machines, loaders, bulldozers, excavators, and other similar equipment.
  • Drives trucks or tractors with special trailers for hauling oversize and overweight equipment like poles, transformers, bulldozers, excavators, and cranes, requiring special permits.
  • Operates earth boring machines for installing wood and metal poles, transmission tower foundations, and caissons.
  • Assists in setting poles, transformers, and materials near energized conductors, adhering to safety requirements.
  • Is responsible for the stock of materials and tools being hauled and normally carried.
  • Maintains equipment in good operating condition by performing minor repairs, cleaning, lubricating, and checking fluid levels, and reporting the need for major repairs.
  • Directs and instructs helpers on their work, safety, and standard practices and procedures.
  • Operates excavators for installing transmission tower foundations and other underground facilities.
  • Operates backhoes, loaders, bulldozers, trenchers, and associated equipment.
  • Performs excavating and grading to specific requirements.
  • Installs URD type streetlighting, including cable, ducts, fixtures, photo cells, and wiring according to construction drawings.
  • Places URD type cables, pedestals, transformer pads, and transformers according to job construction drawings, including direct buried cable, taping, and sealing.
  • Installs ground rods for substations and URD systems, and connections for grounding transformers and communication equipment.
  • Places communication cable and installs ducts and pedestals according to construction drawings for joint line use.
  • Maintains records of work performed, materials and equipment installed, and labor hours allocated to standard work operations.
  • Contacts customers regarding work being performed on their property.
  • Performs other similar or less skilled work as assigned.
