About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Streets/Storm Drain/Solid Waste/Landfill Superintendent, operates heavy equipment for the construction, maintenance and emergency operation of the roads within Payson City limits. This position has multiple levels (I, II, III) with increasing responsibilities and requirements.

Requirements

  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must obtain a valid Utah Driver's license within 60 days of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
  • Equipment Operator I: High School diploma or equivalent plus two (2) years' experience as an equipment operator performing the same or similar duties, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Equipment Operator I: Possess and maintain throughout employment a Class A, Utah Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsements within 6 months of hire date.
  • Equipment Operator I: ATSSA Flagger Certification
  • Equipment Operator I: First Aid/CPR Training
  • Equipment Operator I: Confined Space Training
  • Equipment Operator I: Trench Shoring Training
  • Equipment Operator I: Snow Plow Training (Required within 12 months of hire date)
  • Equipment Operator I: Must acquire heavy equipment operator certification, on at least one (1) of the following types of heavy equipment: skid steer, backhoe or loader by an accredited training organization (i.e. Utah LTAP within six month of hire date, remains on probation until acquired).
  • Equipment Operator II: High School diploma or equivalent plus three (3) years' experience as an equipment operator performing the same or similar duties, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Equipment Operator II: One year as Operator I or equivalent experience.
  • Equipment Operator II: Possess and maintain throughout employment a Class A, Utah Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker and hazardous material endorsements.
  • Equipment Operator II: ATSSA Flagger Certification
  • Equipment Operator II: First-Aid/CPR Training
  • Equipment Operator II: Confined Space Training
  • Equipment Operator II: Trench Shore Training
  • Equipment Operator II: Must acquire heavy equipment operator certification, on at least two (2) of the following types of heavy equipment: backhoe, loader, skid steer, grader, dozer and/or excavator
  • Equipment Operator II: Possess at least two (2) of the following certifications: Pesticide Applicator License, Trenching and Shoring, Confined Space Entry certification, American Concrete Institute certification or Utah LTAP Asphalt Maintenance certification.
  • Equipment Operator III: High School diploma or equivalent plus four (4) years' experience as an equipment operator performing the same or similar duties, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Equipment Operator III: Three years as Operator II or equivalent experience.
  • Equipment Operator III: Possess and maintain throughout employment a Class A, Utah Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker and hazardous material endorsements.
  • Equipment Operator III: ATSSA Flagger Certification
  • Equipment Operator III: First-Aid/CPR Training
  • Equipment Operator III: Confined Space Training
  • Equipment Operator III: Trench Shore Training
  • Equipment Operator III: Must acquire heavy equipment operator certification, on at least three (3) of the following types of heavy equipment: backhoe, loader, skid steer, grader, dozer and/or excavator
  • Equipment Operator III: Possess at least three (3) of the following certifications: Pesticide Applicator License, Trenching and Shoring, Confined Space Entry certification, American Concrete Institute certification or Utah LTAP Asphalt Maintenance certification.

Nice To Haves

  • All accredited certifications must be kept current. Failure to do so may result in loss of position or demotion to Equipment Operator I (for Operator II) or demotion to Equipment Operator I or II (for Operator III).

Responsibilities

  • Operates heavy equipment for construction, maintenance, and emergency operations of roads.
  • Serves on-call as needed.
  • Responds to emergency on-call situations within 30 minutes.
