About The Position

This position is responsible for the plant wide operation of mobile equipment. The role involves loading, transporting, and stockpiling raw materials and coal for cement production, stripping overburden for raw material extraction, leveling and maintaining haul roads and stockpiles, and hauling trash and other materials. The operator will also use equipment for construction or repair of plant facilities. Key responsibilities include maintaining a safe working environment, adhering to safety policies, performing daily housekeeping and workplace inspections, and proper use of plant radios. The operator must be familiar with MSHA safety rules, plant mobile equipment safety procedures, lockout/tagout, confined space, hot work policies, emergency response plans, and proper handling of environmentally sensitive materials. The role also requires ensuring quality of work, participating in continuous improvement, observing best practices, good time management, and troubleshooting/analyzing root cause failures. The operator will work where and when needed to meet plant demands.

Requirements

  • Two years heavy-equipment operator experience.
  • Task training required for each type of equipment operated.
  • Must be able to obtain a CDL.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude or background.
  • Ability to perform daily inspection and servicing.
  • Familiarity with area and conditions in which equipment will be operated.
  • Thorough knowledge of operating limitations of equipment, (i.e., weight, speed, braking capabilities).
  • Good physical condition as position may require bending, kneeling, walking, standing, climbing, stairs and lifting; high degree of manual dexterity and coordination and good eye/hand coordination.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts appropriate to the position.
  • Ability to apply concepts to practical situations.
  • Evaluate the results of projects, training, and implementation.
  • Ability to solve practical problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Responsibilities

  • Load, transport, and stockpile raw materials and coal as required for production of cement.
  • Strip overburden to facilitate drilling and removal of raw material.
  • Level and maintain haul roads and stockpiles.
  • Hauling trash, dust and other materials.
  • Operate equipment in construction or repair of plant facilities.
  • Maintain a safe working environment, adhere to safety policies and practices.
  • Perform daily housekeeping of assigned area.
  • Perform daily workplace inspections.
  • Adhere to plant policies and proper use of plant radios.
  • Be familiar with MSHA safety rules, safety procedures for plant mobile equipment, lockout/tagout policy, confined space permit policy, hot work policy, emergency response plan, arc flash/shock and burn protection, proper containment and disposal process (via Waste Management Plan) for lubricants, paints/solvents and other environmentally sensitive materials.
