About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Northern Region Highways and Aviation Western District is seeking an Equipment Operator Journey 1 / 2 to help maintain Alaska's transportation infrastructure. This role involves operating and maintaining various equipment for year-round safety and functionality. Responsibilities include snow and ice control, snow removal, drainage maintenance, traffic control, and emergency response in winter. In summer, duties involve maintaining roads, bridges, signs, drainage systems, guardrails, and pavement markings. The position also includes conducting equipment inspections and maintenance, assisting with emergency response, participating in training, and operating heavy equipment while developing advanced skills.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Class B Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required at the time of hire for Equipment Operator Journey 1.
  • A Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required at time of hire for Equipment Operator Journey 2.
  • Must register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safety-sensitive duties.
  • Provide consent to the Employer to review driver information.
  • Selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and procedures.
  • Must pass the required Pre-Employment drug test.
  • Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials used to meet or support the minimum qualifications/competencies.

Nice To Haves

  • A conditional hire approval can be given to applicants that do not yet possess a Class A CDL for Equipment Operator Journey 1, requiring successful obtainment within 120 days of hire.
  • A conditional hire approval can only be given for endorsements for Equipment Operator Journey 2, requiring successful obtainment of a Tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire.
