About The Position

Operates medium sized equipment, such as bobcats and loaders also including roll-off trucks, loaders, pick-up trucks, and performs manual labor in the maintenance and/or repair of County property and facilities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • One year Equipment Operator I experience required.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the minimum level of qualifications stated above.
  • Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Knowledge of geography of the County, including major roads and landmarks.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Knowledge of traffic rules and regulations and safe operation of heavy trucks and equipment.
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of, and skill in, operating various types of medium sized equipment.
  • Ability to take and follow directions from supervisor.
  • Ability to perform strenuous and routine work.
  • Ability to lift objects of up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Continuous ability to be on call; direct others; meet deadlines; operate equipment; and stay organized.
  • Continuous ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting/standing); move oneself about the worksite by walking; ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and ramps; reach overhead; position oneself by crouching or kneeling; maintain body equilibrium to prevent failing when walking, standing, crouching or navigating narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces; push or pull items; repetitively use hands/arms/legs; grasp items; and move/transport items weighing up to 25lbs.

  • Frequent ability to bend body downward and forward by bending spine and legs, twisting at the waist, hips orкр knees; and move/transport items weighing between 26lbs and 75lbs.
  • Frequent ability to use math/calculations.
  • Occasional ability to move oneself by crawling on hands and knees and move/transport items weighing between 76lbs and 100lbs.
  • Occasional ability to be on-call; work irregular hours (i.e. nights and/or weekends); and attend work-related meetings and training.
  • Ability to use effective verbal and written communication; and use of hand/eye coordination and fine manipulation to use tools and equipment.
  • Continuous exposure to risk of bodily injury from hazards including chemical, sharp objects/tools, heavy machinery, and traffic; dirt/mud, fumes, gases, odors, dust, grease and oil; moving mechanical parts; extreme noise; vibration; and wet, slippery floors/surfaces.
  • Continuous ability to work with others.
  • Frequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions, including inclement weather or dry environments; extreme hot or cold temperatures; risk of bodily injury from biological hazards; working in high heights/high places or constricted spaces; and hot temperature devices including burners and flame torches.
  • Occasional exposure to risk of bodily injury from electrical hazards.
  • Occasional ability to work alone.
  • Regular ability to work around equipment/machinery; drive county vehicles and other equipment; and walk on uneven ground.

Responsibilities

  • Complete pre-operation and post-operation inspections on all equipment.
  • Operates equipment in a safe and productive manner.
  • Daily cleaning of equipment, blowing out filters and radiator.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work areas at all times.
  • Daily interaction with Hall County residents, always providing excellent customer service.
  • Operates roll-off trucks to transport solid waste from compactor sites
  • Operates wheeled loader to push solid waste in transfer station.
  • Performs basic maintenance on roll-off trucks, pick-up trucks, including washing, greasing, checking fluids.
  • May operate a scooter truck when assigned to litter control.
  • Ensure that safety is maintained through proper training and use of PPE.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Performs other relevant work as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
