About The Position

Floyd County is looking for an Equipment Operator II. The purpose of this classification is to operate heavy equipment and perform manual labor in support of County construction, maintenance, and operational activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year of experience in equipment operation
  • Must possess and maintain a valid commercial driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a variety of heavy equipment and vehicles, including dump trucks, backhoes, excavators, motor graders, rollers, and mowers, to perform construction, maintenance, and repair of County roads and related systems.
  • Performs manual work tasks such as grading roads, patching pavement, installing pipes, building and finishing concrete forms, fabricating and installing signs, clearing ditches, mowing, and moving materials.
  • Conducts pre- and post-trip inspections and performs daily preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment; reports problems and completes required documentation.
  • Adheres to safety procedures, monitors work environment, and uses protective equipment; directs traffic and sets up signage or cones to ensure crew and public safety.
  • Prepares, reviews, processes, and maintains reports, work orders, logs, and other documentation related to work activities.
  • Communicates and coordinates with supervisors, coworkers, other departments, and the public to exchange information, address issues, and ensure efficient workflow.
  • Obtains, transports, loads, and unloads equipment, tools, and materials as needed; may assist in directing individuals assigned to work areas.
