About The Position

The purpose of this position is to perform semi-skilled and skilled labor in the construction, maintenance, repair, and related service activities for streets, sidewalks, storm drains, and signs. This role also involves operating construction equipment as required. The target hiring range for this position is $22.52 - $25.02 per hour.

Requirements

  • Requires eighth grade education plus five years in a related field or high school equivalency.
  • Two years of experience operating light, median and heavy equipment.
  • Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • Must pass a DOT-regulated drug/alcohol test.
  • Must successfully complete the FMCSA Clearinghouse background check process.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license “C” on date of employment.
  • Must obtain a minimum of a class “B” commercial driving license within 6 months of employment.
  • Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational and technical processes required to maintain and service check equipment used in street maintenance.
  • Requires a comprehensive, practical knowledge of street maintenance with the use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a streets maintenance crew.
  • Patch pavement and seal cracks.
  • Remove graffiti.
  • Perform bikeway maintenance.
  • Construct forms; pour and finish concrete.
  • Operate construction equipment such as dump trucks, rollers, motor graders, front loaders, 10-yard rotary mix truck, excavators, forklifts, aerial lift trucks, backhoe, asphalt paver, hydro/vacuum trucks, sweepers and power tools such as compressors, rotor hammers, jack hammers, paint sprayers, asphalt grinders, and concrete saws.
  • Clean up debris from walkways, ditches, alleys and streets.
  • Perform work in emergency situations as required.
  • Inspect and clear obstructions from storm drains.
  • Identify equipment needs for each assigned project.
  • Pick up and transport debris and refuse to each dumping site as required.
  • Maintain markings, traffic signs, and guardrails.
  • Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed.
  • Install street barricades and cones prior to the performance of street repair activities; direct and control traffic around work sites.
  • Transport equipment/materials to job site.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public, using principles of good customer service.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
